What is the Gospel?
The Gospel is the good news about God’s redemptive work to reconcile sinners to God. Jesus accomplished this through His death, burial and resurrection. The Gospel is good news because it tells the story of how God displayed His love for us by rescuing and redeeming his people through sending His son Jesus to die on the cross for the sins of His people. Through His sacrifice, Jesus atones for the sins of His people, provides new life through the cross and establishes His Kingdom. In response to the Gospel, sinners are called to repent of their sins and place their faith in Jesus.
What does it mean for Jesus to be “in MY place”?
Jesus in our place changes everything! Even though we are sinners and have sinned against God, Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay the debt of our sins and bring us into right relationship with God. Therefore, if we place our faith in Jesus, it’s Jesus who perfectly satisfies our debt before God. Through Jesus, our relationship with God is restored and we find new life with God forever. The new life we have in Jesus expresses itself in gratification to God for His grace and mercy which leads us to worship Him for the rest of our lives.
